CalFresh assistance helps reduce food insecurity and improve access to nutritious foods and commodities for low income individuals and households.
The amount of benefits a household receives is dependent on household size, countable income, and monthly expenses, such as housing and utilities. The program issues monthly benefits on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. Food may be purchased at any grocery store or farmers market that accepts EBT cards. Benefits can be used at some restaurants for hot meals. The program also offers tips on nutrition and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
CalFresh is a program that helps: students, seniors, refugees, single parents, low-income families, and some SSI members with money for food. There is no limit on the number of people in one application.
